Lunar Eclipse
Welcome to Time Lapse Time.
The world is full of beautiful events that happen too slowly for the human eye to appreciate.
A time lapse camera takes photos at certain time intervals and plays it back at a faster speed.
These videos aim to capture that beauty and share it with you.
A Lunar Eclipse is when the Earth casts its shadow on the moon. It really is a beautiful phenomenon. The Lunar eclipse I captured was a Partial Lunar Eclipse but the Earth's shadow covered the moon 97%. During a Total Lunar Eclipse or one close to total like this one the moon has a reddish tint to it. This is the sunlight passing through the Earth atmosphere and most of the colors get filtered out except for the longer wavelengths like red. I set up the time lapse camera to capture the night.
Some interesting things to look out for in this video:
The moon dimming as the Earth’s shadow passes over the moon and the moon becomes brighter again.
Airplanes streaking across the sky
The clouds moving in
Light coming on as we woke up to see the Eclipse
My red headlamp as I was setting up the telescope.
The Earth spinning as the stars move in the night sky.
