Chickens Carving a Pumpkin
Welcome to Time Lapse Time.
The world is full of beautiful events that happen too slowly for the human eye to appreciate.
A time lapse camera takes photos at certain time intervals and plays it back at a faster speed.
These videos aim to capture that beauty and share it with you.
Every year I enter the school's pumpkin carving contest. I always carve something scientific but this year I decided to do something a little different. I decided to have my chickens carve the pumpkin for me. Chickens love to eat pumpkins. I used a screwdriver to poke holes where I wanted them to eat and set the pumpkin in their chicken run for several hours and let them do their work. I did have to cut out some of the edges when they were done eating the big chunks.
Some interesting things to look out for in this video:
Try to count how many chickens there are. It is a little tricky. There are only a couple of shots with all of them together.
Look for the one chicken that is constantly getting out of the chicken run that I have to keep catching and putting back in the chicken run.
There must have been a dog or some predator off screen at some point because at one point in the video the only chicken on screen stops and looks around
The last few seconds of the video the sun is setting. Because the video is sped up it happens really fast.
Try to guess what the chickens are carving into the pumpkin.
